This series of drawings is part of my Master's thesis in Drawing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL), titled 'Amazon and Laurissilva: A Dialogue Between Ancestral Forests, an Ethnobotanical Study Through Drawing'. The project was developed over the course of a year, during which I traveled in loco to these forests, spending days immersed in their environments to absorb their nuances and capture their atmospheres.
Using ink and charcoal on large-format sheets (A1), I explored the strength and delicacy of these landscapes, allowing the strokes to express their organic complexity. The monochromatic approach enhances the essence, the silence, and the mystery of natural forms, creating a contrast that highlights textures and movement.
The creative process involved in-depth research, sketches, and final drawings, with careful revisions to capture the fluidity and living presence of the forests. Each drawing establishes an intimate dialogue between me and these ancestral spaces, connecting them through a unique visual language, where art becomes an extension of sensory experience and memory.
